1. Lorry size and number of trips
- The bigger the home, the larger the lorry or the more trips needed. See our lorry size guide.
2. Distance
- Moves within Colombo, Gampaha or Kalutara are priced differently from out-station moves to Kandy, Galle or Jaffna, which include fuel, tolls and crew time.
3. Crew size and time
- More furniture or difficult access (stairs, no lift, long carry from the gate) means more loaders or more hours.
4. Packing and materials
- Full packing with cartons, bubble wrap and stretch film costs more than moving pre-packed boxes, but it greatly reduces the risk of damage.
5. Dismantling and special items
- Wardrobes, beds, pianos, safes, glass tables and machinery need extra time or equipment.
6. Storage
- If your new home is not ready, storage adds a monthly cost but avoids paying for a second move later.
How to save
- Declutter before the move.
- Pack non-fragile items yourself and book fragile-only packing.
- Be flexible on the date; mid-month weekdays are quieter.
- Send photos on WhatsApp for a free, fixed quote (see how it works).
