How to Pack Fragile Items for a House Move

By the Movers.lk team · Updated 2026-10-14

Get the right materials

  • Strong double-wall cartons, not used supermarket boxes.
  • Bubble wrap, packing paper or newspaper, and good tape.
  • A marker pen and FRAGILE labels.

Plates, bowls and glasses

  • Wrap each piece individually in paper or bubble wrap.
  • Stand plates on their edge like records, never flat.
  • Fill gaps with crumpled paper so nothing moves.
  • Put heavier items at the bottom and lighter ones on top.

TVs, mirrors and frames

  • Use the original box if you still have it.
  • Protect corners with cardboard or foam and wrap in bubble wrap.
  • Mark the box THIS WAY UP and FRAGILE on several sides.

Electronics

  • Take a photo of cable connections before unplugging.
  • Back up computers and remove ink cartridges from printers.
  • Pack cables in labelled bags taped to each device.
